Chronology of cameras Ansco
Basically, it's a Ricoh Auto-Half "zone focus"; however, there's a small difference: it features a shoe to attach a flash or accessories. The lens, renamed Memar, offers the possibility of distance adjustment through the symbols F N C (Far Near Close), indexed in the viewfinder with a needle that positions itself in front of the appropriate letter according to the setting.
The back is now permanently attached to the camera body through a hinge, whereas in the previous generation of Ansco Memo Automatic/Ricoh Auto Half, it was completely detachable.
There's uncertainty regarding the dating of this camera. Its Ricoh equivalent is dated 1963, but it seems that the GAF logo is associated with Ansco cameras only from 1967 (this is the date retained in McKeown's guide). For the Memo II Automatic, I'll do the same, even though at that time, the Ricoh Auto-Half models had integrated the shutter release on the top of the camera for several years.
Ansco had several of its cameras made by third parties, and in the early sixties, Ricoh supplied several camera models to Ansco, including this Memo II Automatic.
