Chronology of cameras Photo-Hall

This camera appeared in the Photo-Hall catalogues between 1903 and 1914. A different camera under the same name is on the catalogues in 1900-1901, but it corresponded to a different stereoscopic wooden camera. The camera is completely covered in aluminium and is advertised as being made for tropical environments. The maker was L. Gaumont & Cie and originally had the name Spido Métallique. It was also distributed by Jonte (Deloye) and the Comptoir Photographique Colonial of Henry Barby. The camera was made for 12 plates of 6.5 x 9 and 9 x 12 cm, and also for stereoscopic formats 4.5 x 10.7 and 8 x 16 cm. The single lens version could be fitted with Photo-hall anastigmat, Carl Zeiss Anastigmat and Protar, Krauss-Zeiss Tessar, or Goerz Anastigmat, but later versions are only fitted with the Anastigmat 6.3 or the Krauss-Zeiss Tessar 6.3 and made for 9 x 12 cm format only.

The body, although advertised to be completely made of aluminium, has significant internal components in wood and then covered in aluminium. This specimen is designed for 9 x 12 cm format with a magazine for 12 plates. The lens is a Carl Zeiss Protar with a focal length of 136 mm and maximum aperture of 8 – the serial number (61395) indicates it was made in 1903. The front shutter is a Decaux with time and variable instantaneous speeds in the range 1/7 to 1/120 sec.
