Chronology of cameras Carena
The Carena brand is registered in the early 1950s by Coop, a Swiss distribution group resulting from the merger of several companies.
It concerns photographic equipment. It is renewed several times by Coop, then by Interdiscount, a subsidiary of Coop specializing in the sale of electronic and photographic equipment.
Interdiscount was created in 1970 and relies on a dense network of branches. In 1973, there were 42 branches throughout Switzerland. Abroad, Interdiscount relies on existing networks. In Germany, in the early 1980s, Interdiscount acquired shares in the struggling company Photo Porst.
This small compact camera strongly resembles the Carena 35EE, of which it appears to be a less luxurious version. Its viewfinder is tinted pink but remains very clear with perfectly readable inscriptions even in low light. It features a needle reminder of the chosen exposure setting as well as a focus symbol (4 steps at 1m, 1.5m, 3m, and infinity) indicated by a green marker moving from symbol to symbol.
The lens has no brand but is also a 38mm with an aperture of 2.7, similar to the 35EE. Focus is achieved using four distance symbols, with only the two middle ones having a notch.
Exposure can be automatic or aperture-priority (six steps between 2.7 and 16, only 8 is marked, the others are represented by white dots), with sensitivity selection (from 25 to 400 ASA) located under the lens by a small slider with a notch in the middle.
The central shutter also controls the aperture; there is no diaphragm.
