En 2013, soit un an après la sortie du Powershot SX260 HS, Canon présente le Powershot SX280 HS Wi-Fi. C'est le même appareil doté du Wi-Fi, permettant le transfert des images vers un ordinateur, sans avoir à effectuer un branchement. Il faut cependant installer une application dédiée sur l'ordinateur.
Contrairement à certains de ses concurrents, il n'est pas possible d'utiliser le Wi-Fi pour piloter l'appareil à distance, à partir d'un téléphone.
