Chronology of cameras Sunpet Industries

Sunpet Industries Company was established in Hong Kong in 1972 and became Sunpet Industries Limited in 1980. The current factory was set up in Guangzhou in 1983. Sunpet was the first manufacturer in Hong Kong to install machinery for the production of plastic aspherical lenses in 1994.

The exact date of the first production of this model is not known, but it's possible that it has been in production for some time. It is a very simple device with a shutter speed and aperture, but there are many versions of it. It was sold or offered as a promotional item under the manufacturer's name. It was manufactured in black, silver, bright red, magenta, pink, blue, and yellow (and possibly more).

It is also known by many names and sometimes without any name at all.

__________

At first glance, this camera appears to be a Sunpet, but upon closer inspection, several differences are noted:

The finger rest has a different shape and lacks grooves.
The grooved area near the front window of the viewfinder is wider than on Sunpet cameras.
The shape of the protrusion around the lens is different.
It has a ring for attaching a strap.
The shutter button is smaller.
The casing has slight differences.

Despite the strong similarities, it's evident that a different mold was used for this model compared to identified Sunpet cameras.

This particular unit is a promotional item for Malabar chewing gum. Plop!
