Chronology of cameras Carena

The Carena brand is registered in the early 1950s by Coop, a Swiss distribution group resulting from the merger of several companies.
It concerns photographic equipment. It is renewed several times by Coop, then by Interdiscount, a subsidiary of Coop specializing in the sale of electronic and photographic equipment.

Interdiscount
was created in 1970 and relies on a dense network of branches. In 1973, there were 42 branches throughout Switzerland. Abroad, Interdiscount relies on existing networks. In Germany, in the early 1980s, Interdiscount acquired shares in the struggling company Photo Porst.

If there's a KSM 2, it's because there's a KSM 1. The only difference between the two is the display of the aperture value in the viewfinder of the KSM 2.

Both models feature a Pentax K mount, hence the "K" at the beginning of their names. They are semi-automatic cameras, with exposure metering provided by two CdS cells. Display in the viewfinder is done using three diodes (on the right side). Typically, a green diode indicates correct exposure, while red ones indicate over and underexposure.

Focusing is facilitated by a horizontal split-image rangefinder, surrounded by a circle of micro-prisms.

These cameras can be motorized using the Auto-Winder EX (re-winder, not a motor).

There's also a Carena KS, a more economical version, non-motorizable, and lacking a split-image rangefinder in its viewfinder.

The KSM 1 and KSM 2 come in black finish, while the KS is only available in chrome finish.

They are manufactured by Cosina.
