Chronology of cameras Zeiss Ikon

Traduction de Manuel M

The name of Icarette does not come, as one could believe it of the actor Carette of the Thirties, splendid poacher in “the rule of the game”… This name comes from the brand ICA founded in 1909 (where the range of Icarette folding cameras appears at the end of the year 1910…):

Icarette Icarette

This name will be started again by Zeiss Ikon as from 1926, year of creation of the brand with the merger of Goerz, Contessa Nettel, Ernemann and ICA.

To determine a model of Icarette is attempting the impossible.
As of the end of the year 1910 and until less the 1936 (I have a catalogue under the eyes), this name will endure. From Ica to Zeiss Ikon, of folding camera vertical or horizontal, mixed film/plate or exclusive film, of simple extension or double extension of the bellows, of Icarette de Luxe or more basic, the catalogue Zeiss Ikon 1929 make a list of 18 models and 87 different combinations shutter/lens (from 560 to 2955 francs of the time)!

Let us return to our camera, this Icarette 512/15:
It is a “higher model for films and plates”, films 6.5 x 11 and plates 6.5 x 9. Approved at the beginning of the creation of Zeiss Ikon in 1926/1927, with classification ICA 502/1, then 512/15 from 1928/1929, it will remain on sale until 1936.

The serial number of the P41366 body corresponds to the year 1928; that of the lens Zeiss Tessar 958570 at the year 1929. That shows well, if need be, that it is about Icarette sold as from 1929.
The mounting of a shutter Friedrich Deckel Compur to the 1/250 second (B+T) and of a Tessar 4.5 12 cm confirms, if need be, a production of end of the year 20 or beginning of the year 30.

The body of Icarette is out of light metal with sheath-making and black leather bellows, double extension with carriage lens holder with hinge.
It has, moreover off-centring of lens in height by micrometric screw and the focusing by radial lever.

A well beautiful and solid camera!
