Chronology of cameras Ricoh

This camera relied on the latitude of negative film to get acceptable prints. It has only one shutter speed and in normal use it would have only one aperture. The maximum aperture is engaged only when the flash is turned on but it could be used at other times by removing the batteries.

There is no cell or diode to suggest when flash should be used, but there is a diode to show when the flash is charged. There is no need for DX decoding, parallax compensation, or any system of focusing.

The lens is made up of 3 elements and is colour corrected, so reasonably good results could be expected - in the right light. Cameras of this degree of simplicity for 35 mm film were uncommon, but it could be compared to the Kodak VR35 K2  and the Ricoh F-35. The manual says that it is "compatible" with films of 100, 200 or 400 ISO.
