Chronology of cameras Kodak
There is not much reliable information available about this camera, the whole series seems to have disappeared without trace. The camera doesn't say where it was made; the "Ektanar" lens is colour corrected and described as a "hybrid", but that is all we are allowed to know.
The KE20 has an automatic loading system similar to those found on APS cameras. It also has a DX system which presumably varies the aperture according to the film sensitivity - and a tiny light sensor that activates the flash automatically when needed.
The closest focus is 1.2 metres which suggests that Kodak didn't make best use of the lens. If it was focused at the hyperfocal distance (about 1.5 metres) the closest acceptable focus would be at about 0.8 metres at F5,6 or about 0.4 metres at F16.
The KE series seems to have run concurrently with the KB series which was much closer to the expectations of traditional Kodak buyers. The two series would have been competing for sales, and the Easyload system may have put the price of the KE's beyond the levels which most Kodak loyalists would pay.
The only positives with this camera are that it is relatively well made, and the frame counter is large and easy to read. The peculiar "frogs eye" flash is common to the first six models of the series.
The KE series included the KE20, KE25, KE30, KE40, KE50, KE60, KE85 and KE115 models (at least). KE probably stands for Kodak Easyload.
