Chronology of cameras Bolta

In 1936, Bolta-Werk introduced a new 35mm film without perforations, featuring a paper backing. This film was more affordable than perforated film. The negative format is 25 x 25 mm, and it is known as Bolta.

That same year, a new camera was created to use this film, called the Boltavit. It is a small cast metal camera, entirely black and partially covered with black casing. Later versions would be partially chrome-plated.

The lens on this model is a Boltar 7.7/40 mm, but other lenses can be found, such as Doppel Objectiv 7.7/40 mm, Friedrich Corygon Anastigmat 4.5/40 mm, or Meyer Trioplan 3.5/40 mm.

It offers a choice of three apertures: 7.7, 16, 12, and shutter speeds B, 1/25, 1/50, 1/100. The "S" position for shutter speeds is used to prevent any unintentional triggering. The camera has a socket for a cable release. The shutter/lens assembly is mounted on a retractable tube.

The career of this model was short-lived, as the company changed its name in 1937 to Photavit-Werk, and the Boltavit was replaced by the Photavit.

Note: The Bolta film was designed for advancement monitoring through an absent inactinic window on the Boltavit. Therefore, the Boltavit is equipped with a frame counter with a peculiar and somewhat disruptive numbering scheme, similar to the Boltax: 1 10 2 7 3 11 8 4 12 5 9 6!
