Chronology of cameras Canon
Canon, a manufacturer of cameras and lenses, also operates in the medical equipment field. Therefore, this camera from the late 1970s is dedicated to fundus exams conducted by ophthalmologists. It is specifically designed to be mounted on a Canon CF 60U or CF 60ZA angiograph. It retains the Canon FD bayonet mount, and its electrical power is supplied by a 6-volt battery, even though it operates with a specific MZ motor that requires external power.
It features a cloth curtain shutter, and film exposure is controlled by the angiograph with a fixed shutter speed. The unique viewfinder is non-removable and designed to provide a framed image of the fundus. To assist the operator in focusing on the frosted glass, a large reticle is present. Diopter correction is available between +4 and -2 diopters by rotating the eyepiece. It's worth noting that the shape of the reflex view mirror is different from that of an A-1 or AE-1. It is truncated on the sides and is longer by approximately 10 mm, almost reaching the top of the lens mount plate when in the upper position. Therefore, it's essential not to attach a lens directly to this camera to avoid damaging the viewfinder mirror in case of camera operation.
A vertically positioned rectangular window allows for the photographic recording of a four-digit number that needs to be set on the angiograph.
The fundus image is recorded on the film in a horizontally truncated circle at the top and bottom (29 mm in its largest diameter and 22 mm in height). A very small arc-shaped notch of about 1 mm (present here at 1 o'clock) appears in the photo. Its shape and positioning on the circular perimeter indicate the brand of the capturing camera: an arc for Canon, a square for Topcon, and a triangle for Olympus.
Today, equivalent equipment has become digital or replaced by tomography devices.
