Chronology of cameras Argus

The camera is ugly (who says otherwise?) and if it weren't named Argus, it would have ended up in the "Last Stop Before the bin" section.

For years, I kept it at the back of a closet, but I eventually thought it deserved a little presentation. On one hand, it's a symbol of the degeneration of certain major brands, whose names end up being acquired, at best, by serious Japanese companies, and at worst and all too often, by Chinese plastic manufacturers. On the other hand, it represents a aspect of eBay that seems to be a thing of the past.

I experienced eBay at a time when the internet wasn't yet a mass phenomenon. eBay, then only in its American version, brought together more enthusiasts than merchants. One day, while buying an Argus (a real one, not this plastic one), I stumbled upon a member of the Argus collectors' association. When I opened the package, I discovered a surprise in addition to the camera I had bought. It was this brand-new camera, still wrapped in its original plastic.
