Chronology of cameras Avant
The Avant Camera Quad was designed for making badges in American government offices. Its manufacturing was intended for intensive use, and its cast aluminum body appears indestructible.
It is equipped with four identical lenses for the simultaneous capture of four photos. It has a Polaroid back (PackFilm 100) for instant development. There is a diaphragm for each lens, but when one of the rings is turned, the other three are also driven.
The uncocked shutter is oversized and synchronized for flash, with a coaxial socket and a two-pin male socket.
Interestingly, the lenses are not positioned in the center of the images, and in addition to the collimated frame, the viewfinder shows an incomplete frame that must correspond to the area common to the four photos.
This camera was designed in 1963 by engineer Samuel Kitrosser for HecCorp and was manufactured in Concord, Massachusetts.
There is also a model with the body of a Polaroid J66 (or J33).
A 1972 document (pdf) constitutes a study on the opportunity to equip the US Department of Defense services and a number of civilian establishments with an identification badge system. It provides an overview of existing systems and possible improvements.
