Chronology of cameras Ricoh
This Ricoh XR was purchased in China by its previous owner who brought it back to France, where it was later sold on a flea market. There is a superb hologram "People's Republic of China" affixed on the back.
In France, it was sold under the name of Cosina E1 Solar. It was presented in 1994 under this name at the "Salon de Paris" (SATIS-ITIS).
It is a simple, semi-automatic, fully mechanical camera. Two solar cells are there just to feed the CdS sensor and the three LEDs in the viewfinder, in charge of assisting the user in setting the speed and aperture. The cells charge the capacitor in 30 minutes (or less in optimal lighting conditions). The capacitor enables the meter for about 190 views. One should be aware that the charge of the capacitor lasts for only 20 days without exposure to light; it is therefore appropriate to anticipate, in order not to miss the photo of the century.
Ricoh had already used this technical solution a decade earlier with its SR-7, without real follow-up.
