Chronology of cameras Boucher
This camera incorporates features presented in a patent dated April 5, 1900 (No. 298925).
It is evidently a pre-production model as the lens board bears no engravings, the name is not on the body, and the lens retains the optician's mark.
Its main characteristic is the use of the interior of the camera as a darkroom. Consequently, photographs must be taken with the drawer pulled out, which is not favorable for balance. Boucher designed a 24-exposure magazine, resulting in a slightly long focal length for a 6.5 x 9 format. The production models will settle for 18 plates. Annuaire du commerce et de l'industrie photographique in 1902 said 50 plates!
Another feature, also detailed in the patent, concerns the viewfinder. It is a simple divergent lens but equipped in its center with a counterweight carrying two small wings providing horizontal alignment in the transversal and longitudinal directions by alignment on the reticle drawn on the lens.
The shutter speeds are variable by tensioning a spring adjusted by a Maltese cross with eight positions. The shutter provides for both long exposure and instantaneous shots. The winding is done by a side lever that acts on the blades of the guillotine. The lens block slides on rails allowing for vertical and horizontal shifting, and the block can even be completely removed.
