Chronology of cameras Canon
The Super Zoom S1 to SX 70 cameras are characterized by zooms with a very wide range of focal lengths. Fortunately, they are stabilized. The other models whose names start with SX are less bulky. The evolution of this series was constant and regular, with a new model every year. Some developments, such as the longest focal length, seem to be more of a marketing gimmick than a response to a need. IS means that the lens is stabilized. HS corresponds to a noise reduction system appearing with the DIGIC 5 processor. HS cameras are also stabilized.

(table from Wikipedia) __________
The Canon Powershot S1 IS has rounder shapes than most of its contemporaries. It is two-tone silver-gray. It has the shape of a small SLR.
It has a large amplitude, stabilized zoom equipped with USM motorization, which is very fast. The zoom, very quiet, remains usable in video mode.
The shortest focal length is not short enough, but an accessory converter allows it to go down to 26.6 mm. Another raises the longest focal length to 608 mm. The quality of this lens is correct, and the presence of stabilization avoids having to increase sensitivity or speed, which is a good thing.
The video mode allows for filming sequences with no other time limit than the volume of data to be recorded.
