Chronology of cameras Canon
The Super Zoom S1 to SX 70 cameras are characterized by zooms with a very wide range of focal lengths. Fortunately, they are stabilized. The other models whose names start with SX are less bulky. The evolution of this series was constant and regular, with a new model every year. Some developments, such as the longest focal length, seem to be more of a marketing gimmick than a response to a need. IS means that the lens is stabilized. HS corresponds to a noise reduction system appearing with the DIGIC 5 processor. HS cameras are also stabilized.

"More than the S1 IS" could be Canon's motto for this new model. While it replaces the S1 IS, the S2 is not just about a sensor change. The zoom of the new model has a range of 12x compared to the 10x of the previous one. The minimum focal length loses two millimeters, moving a bit closer to wide-angle. The quality of the zoom is generally good. Noise is present from 200 ISO.
