Chronology of cameras Universal
Universal Camera Corp produced three Univex Iris models: the simple model, the simple model with flash, and the Deluxe model.
The Deluxe model is encased in leatherette, while the other two are made of granulated metal.
The film used is Universal 00, which produces images sized 28 x 38 mm.
The lens is telescopic, and an original folding mechanism (bent and pivoting palette) allows coupling the shutter release on the body to the one located on the lens. There is a slot available inside the body for storing a spare film.
The early Univex Iris Deluxe cameras differed from the simple Iris only in their casing, but very quickly Universal replaced the fixed-focus lens with a Vitar lens with distance adjustment, and modified the front plate around the lens.
This evolution of the Iris Deluxe is presented here. It is not equipped with the accessory shoe for flash synchronization, which was optional. On the top of the body, you can distinguish the four threaded holes for attaching the shoe.
