Canon III was put on the market of February 1951 to December 1952.
Number of produced specimens: 10,175
Compared to the IIB:
fast speeds of shuttering start with the 1/25s (against 1/20s for the IIB) and are pushed, for the first time on a Canon, with the 1/1000s (against 1/500s for the IIB)
slow speeds are of 1s to the 1/25 S + T (against 1s to the 1/20 S + B)
Giving up the “MIOJ” for MADE IN JAPAN, engraved under the sole
Many hybrids with the IIIA are met., the fast cocking by trigger which will be the trademark of several later models. There exists also a “Canon III Special Oscilloscope”. This mention is engraved with the back of the hood, between the viewfinder and the shoe.

Interchangeable lenses with the Leica standard screwing of 39mm and coupled with the rangefinder.

Focal plane shutter, allowing speeds of the 1/25s the 1/1000s + T, by serrated roller on the hood and slow speeds of 1s to the 1/25s by separated serrated roller, located on the front face of the body.
No synchronization, nor socket for flash.
Loading by the sole.

Engraving “MADE IN JAPAN” on the sole.
Compatibility with the fast cocking by trigger, which will be the trademark of several later models.
