Chronology of cameras Canon
The Ixus cameras are cameras that use APS film. The design of the first model and its extremely small size, comparable to that of a pack of cigarettes, were highly notable. Its meticulously crafted metal construction went against the prevailing trend in the market, which was dominated by plastic. Consequently, it was considered a high-end camera.
Canon diversified the series with cameras that were dissimilar, lacking the same characteristics or level of finishing. The common factor among them was the use of APS film.
The Ixus cameras remained on the market for a few years. They were successful, as between May 1996 and January 1999 (the release date of the IXUS II), over 2.2 million units were sold.
However, the APS debacle hastened the disappearance of these cameras. The advent of digital technology definitively ended the era of APS. Production of the films ceased in 2011.
Canon retained the name for its new digital compact cameras. In this case, the name is supplemented with the word "Digital."

The Ixus Z70 is an extremely compact, box-shaped, automatic APS (IX-240 film) camera, including most of the options offered by APS technology (IX magnetic functions transferred to the film, dates/times, choice of masks offering three different formats, memorization of the number of exposures made in case of film removal during exposure, etc.). Powering on the switch automatically extends the small built-in flash laterally and activates it; pushing it back into its housing turns off the camera.
Among the APS film Ixus range, this model offers the most extensive zoom (3x, equivalent to a 29-87mm according to Canon). The camera operates by combining, as appropriate, aperture priority and program modes, and benefits from autofocus using artificial intelligence (Ai-AF). A collimated viewfinder that adapts to the focal length used (including in close-up mode) facilitates framing.
A green indicator near the viewfinder indicates if the photo can be taken. In case of a risk of blur (low light, long focal length), an orange indicator alerts. This same LED serves as a flash charge indicator. The flash has a red-eye reduction function.
The standard self-timer function is complemented by an optional remote control (RC-5) allowing for remote multiple shots.
Like most cameras of this type, the Ixus Z70 provides its information on a (very small) LCD screen. The camera was sold with a high-quality leather case.
