Chronology of cameras Canon
Traduction de Manuel M
Released in 1996, the EOS 500n is to the 500 what the 1000n was at the 1000: a substitute in improved version.
Outside, he dissociates himself from his predecessor by a body with more made round forms and by the adoption of a two-tone color, as on the EOS 50.
The EOS 500 having been a very big success, it was necessary to return with a little more than of the design changes. This is why, a lot of things were re-examined in the operation of this camera.
The autofocus system functions from now on with three collimators (individually selectable) coupled with exposure metering. There is an automatic function of bracketting. The synchro-flash is at 1/90, to see 1/200 with the Speedlite flashes 380 EX and 220 E.G. There are also a slow synchro mode.
It has most functions of existing priority and automatism at the time.
It is necessary nevertheless to note some weaknesses:
the autofocus system is sometimes hesitating especially in weak luminosity:
the plastic which recovers the body is rather sensitive with the shocks (my integrated flash made the expenses of them)
the consumption of batteries (CR123A) rather high (auto mode, autofocus system and flash) binds to envisage to always have with oneself spare batteries.
Its mode all automatic very simple allows the neophytes or the beginners a first contact with a reflex camera, while progressing rather easily and, why not, dare to disconnect the autofocus system, or the automatic mode and issue themselves in the adventure.
The self-timer, for once (on a camera with a lot of electronics), is easy to use with the quite visible timing.
Another characteristic which one finds on certain Eos since the commencement of the series: the cameras unreels all the film when it is inserted, and rewinds it as the advance of the exposures, thus avoiding the total loss if the camera is opened by inadvertency.
In 1996, it was sold in kit with a zoom 24-85 mm USM with 5000 french francs, or with a zoom 28-80 mm for 3000 french francs.
