L'Eos 5000 est la version la plus économique de la gamme reflex Canon du moment. Il a été développé à partir de l'Eos 500 auquel ont été retirées quelques fonctions ou caractérisitiques. Son utilisation est simplifiée afin d'attirer vers le reflex les utilisateurs habituels de compacts. Le viseur est dépouillé, il n'y a que trois collimateurs autofocus.
En 1997, l'Eos 5000 vaut avec un zoom 38-76, 1990 francs.
